Showers and grey skies for the Okanagan over the next few days

Rain and mostly cloudy condtions are forecast for the next several days in the Okanagan.

OKANAGAN - The next several days may not be the greatest for summer fun in the Okanagan, as a number of dull-sky days and a chance of daily precipitation is forecast into the middle of next week.

Sunday looks like the best day of the weekend, with a forecast for a sun cloud mix and a chance of showers.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says early July rains are not that unusual, calling this year’s late spring and early summer weather “about as normal as it can get.”

He says to expect rainy, showery conditions over the next three days before a slow drying trend develops that will see sunny skies and warm temperatures return by about Wednesday next week.

Rainfall amounts could be significant over the next few days, something Lundquist says is a “good scenario” for reducing the wildfire threat heading into late July and August.

The precipitation is expected to be heavier in the north and central parts of the valley.

In the Okanagan today, July 4, expect cloudy conditions along with a 40 per cent chance of showers this morning, becoming showery in the afternoon with winds from the north at 20 km/h gusting to 40, and a high of 19 Celsius in Vernon, 20 C in Kelowna and 24 C in Penticton.

There is also the risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon and evening in Penticton.

Clouds and a 60 per cent chance of showers will linger overnight, turning to showers tomorrow with 10 to 15 mm expected. The showers should continue overnight with a daytime high of 18 C and an overnight low of 12 C.

The clouds are expected to linger through Saturday along with a 60 per cent chance of showers and a high of 20 C.

A mix of sun and clouds along with a 40 per cent chance of showers is forecast for Sunday along with a high of 23 C.

Monday’s forecast is similar, with a high of 25 C expected under a mix of sun and cloud and a 40 per cent chance of showers.

Tuesday the chance of precipitation rises to 60 per cent with a high of 25 C expected.

Wednesday should see a return to a mix of sun and clouds, with a daytime high of 27 C.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton’s normal daily high and low for this time of year is 26 C and 11 C.
