VERNON – The series of three water main breaks in the Pottery Road area in Vernon Thursday morning having nothing to do with the huge barn fire overnight, according to the City.

Tanya Laing Gahr with the city says 50 homes are without water as crews work to assess and repair the broken mains.

“There’s no evidence the water main breaks are related to the fire incident,” Laing Gahr says, “It’s just one of those things that happens with aging infrastructure. It’s totally coincidental.”

Homes on 18 Street from Pottery Road to 20 Avenue, along 18 Avenue from 15 Street to Pottery Road and on Pottery Road from 18 Street to 15 Street will be without water until sometime Thursday afternoon.

City crews are assessing the damage and doing the repairs, Laing Gahr says.

No word yet on what caused the old pipes to break.
