Select New Year’s Eve celebrations still a go throughout Thompson-Okanagan

If you are hoping to celebrate the new year by attending a major event like a fireworks display, there are only few options throughout the Thompson-Okanagan.

Sun Peaks Resort

The Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops evening celebrations start with New Year’s Dinners at 5 p.m., Snowshoe and Smores at 6 p.m., followed by a firework display at 8 p.m., that can be seen throughout the resort to ensure crowds don’t gather.

Silver Star Mountain Resort

On Dec. 31 beginning at 4 p.m., the Silver Star Mountain Resort will be offering a socially distanced evening of sleigh ride tours, snowcat dinner tours, ice skating, or tubing.

“Due to the current B.C. Public Health orders, ‘all New Year’s Eve organized gatherings and events will be restricted to being seated-only events, with no mingling or dancing allowed’ we are not able to hold our traditional NYE celebrations. However, we invite you to enjoy the mountain and some of the other activities we offer,” the silver star website said.

Big White Ski Resort

Although the New Year’s Eve celebrations have been cancelled in the Kelowna area, and the weekly fireworks have been suspended at Big White until Jan. 18, due to current public health orders, the resort will commence the fireworks again on Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

New York New Year’s Eve, Kelowna

The all-ages New Year’s Eve celebration in Kelowna was cancelled due to COVID restrictions.

The event has been rescheduled to December 2022 and typically features activities such as skating, live bands, games, food trucks, and fireworks.

Penticton Lakeside Resort

Officials at the Penticton Lakeside Resort were unsure if the annual fireworks display is happening, as it is usually organized by the city, however, the resort is offering two events, including a Great Gatsby Dinner at the Hooded Merganser Restaurant, and a New Year’s celebration at the Barking Parrot Bar.
