Seasonal orchard worker in Kelowna allegedly stabbed by colleague

KELOWNA - A 31-year-old orchard worker was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery last night following an alleged knife attack by a fellow worker.

The Kelowna RCMP say in a press release that just after 8:15 p.m. yesterday, Aug 13, police and medical crews arrived at the shared accommodation where both workers lived after receiving a report of a stabbing.

RCMP say they found the male victim conscious and suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound to his back. The man was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery and is now recovering from his injuries that police believe to be non life-threatening.

The incident happened at the orchard where both the seasonal workers were living, located in the 4300 block of Old Vernon Road, east of the Kelowna airport.

A 29-year-old orchard worker was taken into police custody and faces potential charges related to the incident.
