KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Kamloops Blazers 4-1 in Kamloops on Wednesday night, clinching the WHL regular season championship with two games remaining in the regular season.
Ryan Olsen scored twice and Nick Merkley and Tyrell Goulbourne added singles as the Rockets dominated the Blazers, outshooting Kamloops 44-19.
The win improved the Rockets record to 55-11-0-4 as the team claimed the third WHL regular season banner in franchise history.
Jackson Whistle earned the win in net for the Rockets who will close out the regular season with a home and home series against Vancouver this weekend.
Kelowna and the Giants will play in Vancouver Friday and in Kelowna on Saturday night.
The Rockets open the WHL playoffs at Prospera Place on March 22 (7:05 p.m.) and March 23 (5:05 p.m.) against the Tri City Americans.
By clinching 1st overall in the WHL, the Rockets will enter the post-season having secured home ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
