Residents of North Beach and Greata Ranch can go home

Mount Eneas and Good Creek fires send smoke over the Okanagan Lake on July 20, 2018.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen just released some good news for some local evacuees.

The evacuation order for all residential properties along Highway 97 north of Summerland has been changed to an evacuation alert. This came in a media release sent out today, July 21, at about 3:00 p.m.

This includes the areas known locally as Callan Road, North Beach, Greata Ranch and Okanagan Lake Provincial Park and campground.

All properties in the area west of Highway 97 north of Okanagan Lake Provincial Park are still on evacuation order. There are no residential homes in this area, but access is restricted due to the continued risk of wildfire.

All properties removed from evacuation order, including the Okanagan Lake Provincial Park campground, remain under an advisory evacuation alert. Residents and campers in the area should be prepared to leave the area if directed. A Local State of Emergency remains in effect for Electoral Area “F,” the District of Summerland and the Penticton Indian Band due to wildfires in the area.

All advisory Evacuation Alerts remain in place for the District of Summerland, Penticton Indian Band and Meadow Valley area northwest of Summerland in the rural district.
