UPDATE: Man arrested following RCMP road closure in Kelowna

A man has been arrested after Kelowna RCMP closed a road for hours this afternoon.

The Southeast District critical incident program’s emergency response team was deployed to the scene, along with a critical incident commander and a crisis negotiator, in the area of Bryns Road, Jan. 16.

“A Kelowna man was apprehended into custody under the Mental Health Act with the assistance of the tactical emergency response team and subsequently transported to hospital for further assessment,” says Cst. Solana Paré of the Kelowna RCMP, in a media release.

Byrns Road has been re-opened to the public. The RCMP originally responded to an incident of a person with a weapon at 11:49 a.m.

Police are not commenting further on the incident.
