The B.C. RCMP has confirmed one person has died and several more sustained injuries following a vehicle crash along Highway 97 that caused the road’s closure for hours yesterday.

Shortly after 1 p.m. the Penticton RCMP responded to a report of a serious three-vehicle collision on Highway 97 south of Penticton, Oct. 23, said Sgt. Chris Manseau, media relations officer with the B.C. RCMP.

The highway didn’t reopen until roughly 5 p.m. and caused massive traffic delays.

A witness on scene reported a passenger of a vehicle died, but Manseau said the driver of a vehicle, and sole occupant, died after hitting a white SUV that had two occupants and a sedan that only had a driver.

The three survivors were taken away from the scene by B.C. Ambulance, he said.

More details on the incident will likely be available tomorrow, he said.
