RCMP officer sent to hospital after Kelowna crash

RCMP

KELOWNA - A 57-year-old Kelowna man is under investigation after colliding with an unmarked police truck.

The crash happened about 11:25 a.m. yesterday, April 4, on Rifle Road in Glenmore.

An RCMP news release says the man was driving a grey SUV travelling north on Rifle Road. It crossed the centre line and hit the left side of an unmarked southbound RCMP Chevrolet pick-up truck. The truck hit a pole and stopped on the sidewalk. Both vehicles had extensive damage.

The female RCMP officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“While officers were speaking with the male driver, they formed the opinion that the male was impaired by either drugs or alcohol and he was detained at the scene for further investigation,” RCMP Const. Lesley Smith said in the news release. “A drug recognition expert was called to the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken with police are asked to contact the Traffic Services office at (250) 762-3300.
