RCMP offers summertime home security tips

KAMLOOPS - Summertime is upon us so bring on the camping, road trips and outdoor adventures.

Making arrangements for your home is just as important as planning for the trip. The RCMP has a couple tips to keep your home safe while you are enjoying all that beautiful B.C. has to offer.

  • If possible, find a family member or close friend to house-sit for the length of your vacation. They can watch your home and keep in contact with you in the event of an emergency.
  • Find a trusted friend or neighbour to make your home look lived in. Mowing the lawn, collecting the mail and parking a car in the driveway are all good practices.
  • Lock all windows and doors. Be sure to arm your alarm system when leaving.
  • Tools and ladders should be stored inside a garage or secure shed. Keep any items that could be used to gain entry to your home locked up and indoors.
  • Make a habit of recording serial numbers and photographing items that are valuable.
  • Avoid the temptation to post vacation plans on social media. Once personal information is posted to social networks, it cannot be taken back.

Remember, be a good neighbour and community member: If you see something, say something.
