RCMP investigated for shooting in Summerland

SUMMERLAND - A man was admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds today, likely fired by a RCMP officer.

The Independent Investigations Office is investigating the incident, as it does nearly all officer involved injuries. A release this evening says early this morning, July 2, the officer attempted to pull over a vehicle at Rosedale Road and Prairie Valley Road in Summerland.

"Police report that the vehicle headed into a dead end street at Giant’s Head Mountain parkway where an interaction occurred between police and the vehicle and police fired shots," says spokesperson Marten Youssef in the release. "The vehicle left the area and the police officer was uninjured."

Several hours later a man sought treatment in hospital for gunshot wounds.

"The serious injury sustained by the male, who is believed to be in a stable condition, may be connected to the earlier incident," Youssef says.

Investigators are still trying to determine what happened and are interviewing witnesses.
