RCMP, coroner investigating fatal rollover on Okanagan Connector

April 23, 2021 - 10:15 AM

West Kelowna RCMP are investigating the cause of a fatal crash on Highway 97C early this morning.

Officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision in the eastbound lanes of the Okanagan Connector between Pennask Summit and Brenda Mines just after 2 a.m. today, April 23, according to the RCMP in a media release.

Initial findings at the scene suggested a white Chevrolet van struck the centre median before rolling several times. The man driving the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His passenger, also an adult man, was transported to hospital by B.C. Emergency Health Services. The extent of his injuries is not known at this time,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in the release.

The highway was closed for several hours for processing and investigators are currently trying to identify witnesses to determine what led to the crash.

The B.C. Coroners Service is conducting its own investigation into the man's death, and due to the privacy of the deceased, neither the RCMP nor the B.C. Coroners Service have any more details to share at this time, RCMP said.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
