ENDERBY - RCMP are commending the quick thinking of Enderby residents and first responders in preventing a wildfire from spreading yesterday.
According to Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, a wildfire broke out at the 2600 block of Enderby Mable Lake Road after a B.C. Hydro transformer blew, causing sparks to ignite the grass nearby. The incident happened just after 4 p.m. yesterday, Aug. 6.
"Residents in the area jumped into action and were instrumental in preventing the fire from rapidly spreading," Vernon RCMP media liaison officer Const. Kelly Brett said in the release. "Multiple agencies responded, including the B.C. Wildfire Service who were able to contain and fully extinguish the fire."
The release says the RCMP would like to thank the residents who acted "quickly and without hesitation" keeping the fire under control before first responders arrived.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, police say.
