Cannery Brewing will be showcasing its new lounge as part of Penticton Beer Week, which means beverage lovers are invited to serve some time at Ale-Catraz tomorrow.

“If you’re going to get locked up somewhere, good to be surrounded by beer right?” said Kim Lawton, marketing director for Penticton Beer Week and Cannery Brewing.

The Return to Ale-Catraz event is inviting beer lovers to try specialty brews from five rare guest taps.

“Most of these beers have never been poured in Penticton before,” Lawton said. “This is a really cool opportunity for people to try these beers.”

The Cannery will be debuting the Regicide of the Star King. It’s made with hops that came straight from Myrtle Meadows Farm in Pemberton.

“The guys from Cannery raced back to the brewery and made beer with the fresh hops,” she said. “It’s the only time of year you can get a beer like this, when hops are ready and fresh… It’s a hoppier style beer but it still has a backbone of malt to it, so you get some nice complexity to the beer.”

One of the beers is called Do Good – it was made as a collaborative project between all eight local breweries in Penticton, and is a golden sour with honey and citrus.

For pairing with the beer, the Weiner Food Truck will be on site, and there will be live music from Maven the Raven and James Hay.

Return to Ale-Catraz takes place between 2 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 17 is there is no cost of admission. For a list of all events during Penticton Beer Week, go to Visit Penticton.
