VERNON - Wee Yee has accepted the position of president of the 2017 Vernon & Area 55+ BC Games, taking place September 12-16, 2017, which is also the 30th Anniversary of the Games.

Yee is the former executive director of Funtastic and has extensive experience hosting events, including over 20 years of experience with the Calgary Stampede, nine years of those as a member of the board of directors.

“I look forward to applying my 25-plus years of volunteering in leading the volunteer team to deliver a successful 30th anniversary edition of the 55+ BC Games,” said Yee. “Our area has a strong resource of volunteers, facilities and a supportive business community that will contribute significantly to the success of the Games.”

Over the next month, planning for the Games will involve Yee approaching nominated individuals to serve as directors on the local host society. Once directors are in place in May, they will begin building their volunteer teams. A number of local sport organizations have already agreed to be leaders in organizing their sport as part of the Games.

"Wee is an excellent choice for president of the 2017 55+ BC Games as his experience with Funtastic and The Calgary Stampede provide him with the knowledge and organizational skills to succeed,” said Vernon Mayor Akbal Mund.

“On behalf of the BC Senior’s Games Society (BCSGS), and the 55+ BC Games, we would like to congratulate Wee Yee on his nomination and acceptance for the position of President of the local Host Society for the upcoming 2017 Vernon & Area 55+ BC Games,” said Wayne Naka, President BC Senior’s Games Society. “The BCSGS is absolutely delighted to be bringing the 55+ BC Games back to the Vernon area. We are sure the partnering communities will get behind Wee and support him as he begins his journey planning and delivering the 55+ Games in 2017.”

Vernon hosted the first ever Senior’s Games (now called the 55+ BC Games) in 1988. An estimated 3,500 to 4,000 athletes will take part in the Games.
