POLL: Should the border with Alberta be closed until B.C. and Alberta get COVID under control?

May 06, 2021 - 12:00 PM

B.C. has finally figured out it is going to enforce inter-provincial travel to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Starting today, May 6, road checks will be set up on the Coquihalla Highway at the old toll booth, in the Manning Park area of Highway 3, in the Boston Bar area on Highway 1 and near Lillooet on Highway 99.

Debate, if you like, whether this strategy will work, is an infringement of rights, etc, but this is provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry's and Health Minister Adrian Dix's answer to burgeoning case counts in the province.

It might seem strange, then, the border with Alberta remains open — and Alberta has nearly four times the per capita infection rate as B.C. There's nothing stopping Albertans from travelling to the Interior of B.C. and won't be subject to the same restrictions unless they try to reach one of the checkpoints.

Let us know your thoughts in the poll below and as always, if your answer is more complicated, let us know in the comments below.
