KAMLOOPS -  Witnesses say there was another heavy police presence in Kamloops last night.

One man has been arrested after Kamloops RCMP responded to a possible domestic dispute at 2000 Block of Robson Place at around 7:53 p.m., a media release says.

Police say upon their arrival the 59-year-old suspect left the residence with a black handgun.

"When challenged by police, the male went back inside his residence, closing the door," the release says. The suspect did not surrender despite police negotiations by telephone.

The Emergency Response Team arrived on scene early this morning, Feb. 17.

Tear gas was used and the man left the residence. He was then taken into custody.

Police found several air pistols from the residence.

The investigation is ongoing but the scene has been released and nearby residents are able to return to their homes.

Police say this event is unrelated to recent incidents of heavy police presence in Kamloops.

This event comes just one day after police responded to a double shooting in Brocklehurst.

Earlier this week police also responded to a kidnapping that took place downtown.
