Abbotsford police investigate claim of officer assault against Vancouver officer

VANCOUVER - The Abbotsford Police Department has stepped in to investigate an allegation that a Vancouver police officer kicked a handcuffed prisoner in the chest.

The alleged incident occurred during an arrest of a man earlier this week in Vancouver.

The arrest was caught on video and shows the handcuffed man sitting on the curb in nothing but his underwear while the officer delivers a kick so hard the man's neck snaps back.

The Vancouver Police Professional Standards Section is also investigating and the Office of the Police Complaints Commission has been advised of the complaint.

The incident occurred during a call about a robbery on Wednesday night where a thief is alleged to have made off with cash and merchandise from a store, then attempted to take a woman's car.

Police say they received calls about a man with a similar description stripping off his clothes and after he was arrested, he was taken to Vancouver General Hospital where he was treated for a drug overdose.
