PRINCE GEORGE - The coaching staff wanted more secondary scoring going into the weekend and they got their wish on Saturday, Oct. 4, in the Penticton Vees 5-2 win in Prince George.
Dixon Bowen scored twice and Dante Fabbro, Ben Brar and Jason Lavallee added singles, as the Vees rattled off their seventh straight win. More importantly the Vees scored five goals outside of their top line of Tyson Jost, Scott Conway and Chris Gerrie.
Zach Driscoll won his Vees debut, turning aside 22 of 24 shots for his first BCHL win.
It was a quick start, for both teams, as Penticton and Prince George scored inside the first three-minutes. Fabbro opened the scoring 64-seconds into the game after his blast from the point found the back of the net.
PG’s Adam Brubacher got the home side back level two minutes later, as he too had a heavy shot from the blue-line find its way through at 3:03.
The game would remain tied until midway through the second period when the Vees erupted for three goals in just over four-minutes. Bowen scored his first of two in the second on the power-play. Fabbro had his point-shot stopped but Bowen was there in the crease to clean up the rebound at 9:49.
Then it was the Vees scoring twice in 25 seconds, turning a one goal game into a 4-1 lead. Jason Lavallee scored his first BCHL goal at 13:25, when he tipped in Griffin Mendel’s point-shot.
On the very next shift it was Bowen picking up his second of the game on a partial breakaway. Bowen took a pass from Dante Fabbro, skated in behind the defense and slid the puck underneath Spruce Kings starter Sam Tanguay.
That fourth goal spelt the end of the night for Tanguay, as he was replaced by Liam McClusky in the PG net.
Brubacher was at it again for Prince George, this time on a Spruce Kings power-play late in the second to cut into the Vees lead. Again, he hammered the puck from the blue-line thought got through a crowd and past Driscoll at 16:19.
Any thoughts of a Spruce Kings comeback was stamped out by Ben Brar, who bagged his first BCHL goal midway through the third. Easton Brodzinski from behind net, found Brar out front, who one-timed the puck past McClusky at 12:53; another puck picked up and destined for the trophy case.

The Vees (7-1-0-0) are back in action on Wednesday night, Oct. 7, when they host the Trail Smoke Eaters (2-5-0-0) at the SOEC; puck drop is 7 p.m. It’s another Wicked Wednesday, as tickets are just $5 and draft beer is $3.75. Fans can get their tickets at the Valley First Box Office (at the SOEC).
