Penticton tourist arrested for allegedly confining his girlfriend in motel

Ian James MacDonald faces forcible confinement and other charges following his arrest by Penticton RCMP yesterday, Sept. 2, 2020.

Penticton RCMP have made an arrest in connection with an alleged assault and forcible confinement.

RCMP received a report of a possible forcible confinement incident early in the morning on Sept. 2.

The information related to a woman being held against her will by her boyfriend. The pair were believed to be travelling to Penticton from Alberta.

Officers located the two near a Skaha Lake Road motel on Sept. 2.

Following investigation, Ian James MacDonald, 41, was arrested and charged with assault, uttering threats, failing to comply with a probation order and forcible confinement.

MacDonald is now awaiting a court date, police spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in a release this afternoon, Sept. 3.
