Penticton to Apex race goes this weekend

PENTICTON - An annual spring rite in Penticton takes place this weekend.

The Elevator Race from Penticton to Apex Mountain Resort goes Saturday, March 24.

Participants paddle, road bike, run, snowshoe, mountain bike, Nordic ski and downhill ski from the valley floor to the mountaintop. A range of categories is available, providing an opportunity for competitive athletes and weekend warriors alike.

The race begins at the SS Sicamous on Okanagan Lake and is finished when the competitor or teammate passes the gates of the downhill ski at Apex Mountain Resort. The race is made up of six stages and a 6,000-foot elevation change over 50 kilometres. Participants include individuals or teams up to seven persons.

All proceeds of the race will be donated to the Youth Outdoor Recreation Society, a non-profit society providing affordable programs for mainstream and at-risk youth in the Okanagan.
