PENTICTON — A crowdfunding campaign for the family of a Penticton shooting victim has surpassed its goal.

Darlene Knippelberg, 74, was one of four people to lose their lives in the Penticton shootings on Monday. Daniella Iannone who works at the same company as Knippelberg's son, Gary, started a GoFundMe campaign to help her colleague's family.

"Gary, along with his wife, Lorita, are now dealing with the loss of his Mom as well as taking care of his special needs sister," the GoFundMe description says, "Costs for the funeral, medications for his sister, travel for his son (who lives in Vancouver, BC), and other unforeseen expenses can easily add up."

Iannone says the idea to start the campaign was a collaborative effort with the Radec Group CEO, Joe Walters, and it feels "amazing" to have reached the goal.

"(Gary) is just one of those guys that are dedicated to his work, dedicated to his family," Iannone says on the phone, "His family has not deserved this at all. No one does."

The goal was set at $5,000 and was achieved in 21 hours.
