Penticton firefighters called to assist capsized kayaker

PENTICTON - Penticton firefighters were called to rescue a kayaker in Okanagan Lake last night.

The fire department was called at about 7:33 p.m., June 12, to rescue a swimmer holding onto a buoy near the Penticton Yacht Club.

Deputy Fire Chief Dave Spalding says firefighters arrived on scene to find a kayaker had fallen out of his boat and was having difficulty getting back in.

The kayaker was assisted by a passing boat prior to the arrival of the firefighters, Spalding says. The man was helped to shore where he was assessed by emergency medical personnel.

No treatment was necessary and the kayaker was able to continue on his way.
