Penticton encourages picnics in city parks with local takeout food, wine and beer
You'll soon be able to have a picnic and a cold one in a city park in Penticton.
The City announced the Picnic Penticton in a media release today, April 15, in conjunction with National Takeout Day.
The City hopes the new program will inspire people to eat their takeout orders for food and drink in local parks to support businesses during the current public health restrictions on indoor dining in B.C.
The program encourages businesses that provide takeout food or drink, including breweries and wineries, to register for the free City promotional campaign.

"Today, as Canada celebrates National Takeout Day, we’re excited to announce our Picnic Penticton initiative, which aims to build on the great energy already created by the Chamber and (Downtown Penticton Association),” economic development manager Carly Lewis said in the release.
The program will include the distribution of an additional 36 picnic tables to city parks to provide more opportunities for picnicking.
Businesses that register will be included in future marketing promotions, provided with free ‘picnic packs’ to distribute to customers, be featured on the City’s website and promoted through City partners including the Penticton Wine Country Chamber of Commerce, Travel Penticton and the Downtown Penticton Association.
The promotion complements the city's pilot project for responsible alcohol consumption in public parks, which is slated for presentation to city council on April 20 with a proposed start date of May 4.
Picnic Penticton is part of the campaign to support economic recovery and follows recommendations made by the COVID-19 Safe Restart Task Force in support of local business.
