PENTICTON - A Penticton city councillor with two terms of experience is stepping back from political life.

Helena Konanz says she will not be seeking re-election in the 2018 municipal election scheduled for this fall.

“I am honoured to have served the people of Penticton for the past seven years. During that time I have worked with an incredible city staff, and sat alongside some truly dedicated councillors and mayors. I want to thank all of them,” she says in a media release.

Konanz said many people had asked her what her plans were for this upcoming election.

She said she was grateful for the support she’d had, but wanted to let the public to know her intentions in the hope of encouraging other candidates to step forward.

“This has been one of the most fulfilling jobs I have ever held, and I hope that anyone who has the inclination to step forward will do so,” she said.

Konanz was first elected to Penticton City Council in 2011 and won a second term in 2014.
