Penticton 7-Eleven closed due to COVID-19 case

January 15, 2021 - 3:48 PM

A positive case of COVID-19 at Penticton's 7-Eleven has forced the company to temporarily close the location "out of an abundance of caution."

7-Eleven said in an emailed statement today, Jan. 15, an employee tested positive for COVID-19 on Jan. 13.

The store, which includes fuel pumps at its location at 2903 Skaha Lake Rd., closed “out of an abundance of caution,” 7-Eleven said.

“We are asking all of our store staff to self-isolate at home with pay. We have contacted Interior Health and have temporarily closed the store to thoroughly clean and sanitize. We plan to re-open the store on or before Jan. 23, 2021,” the statement reads.

7-Eleven Canada says steps have been taken to prioritize the health of its customers and employees in the company’s 633 Canadian stores.

“We have enhanced our standards and procedures for hygiene, hand washing, sanitation, food handling and preparation in stores, and increased the frequency of cleaning high-touch surfaces.  We have installed sneeze guards at sales counters and visual floor markers in checkout lines to reinforce social distancing, as well as limited customer traffic in our stores,” the statement said.

Several customers attempting to access the store were turned away by locked doors and a sign that read, "Closed for cleaning", noting the store’s closure in several Facebook posts.
