RCMP hunt for thieves who stole 12,000 quahogs in Prince Edward Island

WEBSTERS CORNER, P.E.I. - The RCMP want to know who stole the quahogs.

Mounties in Prince Edward Island say as many as 40 bags of the hard-shelled clams were reported stolen in Websters Corner, about 20 kilometres northeast of Charlottetown.

They say about 12,000 quahogs were taken sometime between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

Police say the shellfish were being stored in mesh bags along the shoreline after being harvested.

They have a reported value of almost $2,000.

Police are asking the public and business community to be diligent in determining the source of any quahogs they buy.
