A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Merritt this morning.

Emergency crews responded to a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle on Highway 5 near Kane Valley Road at 5:15 a.m. today, April 3, according to a press release from police.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

Merritt RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are currently investigating the man's death.

Northbound traffic on Highway 5 was closed around the scene of the crash earlier but has since reopened.
