Local efforts to raise money for upgrading the girls change rooms at Pat Duke Memorial Arena in Lumby have received a $16,000 boost through the TELUS Community Investment grant program.

“We are so excited!” says Local Organizing Committee Team Leader, Angie Clowry.

“The entire North Okanagan community was so supportive of Lumby’s bid for the honour of being named Kraft Hockeyville 2016, and they have continued to support us in our fundraising,” says Clowry. “I think that this grant really demonstrates TELUS’ commitment to being a part of their community.”

Steve Jenkins, General Manager, Okanagan and Vice Chair, TELUS Thompson Okanagan Community Board is pleased to be a part of the excitement.

"Since 2011, the TELUS Thompson Okanagan Community Board has contributed $1.6 million to 205 grassroots projects.  Our TELUS Community Board is proud to support the improvements at the Pat Duke Memorial arena in Lumby, which demonstrates our passion to Give Where We Live," says Jenkins.

Earlier this year, Lumby was awarded the title of Kraft Hockeyville 2016, and received $100,000 for upgrades to the Pat Duke Memorial Arena, and the opportunity to host the October 2, 2016 NHL Pre-Season hockey game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings.

To date local fundraising efforts had raised an additional $19,000, which has now been increased to $35,000 as a result of the TELUS Community Investment Grant.
