Osoyoos Oyster Festival promises to be a palette pleasing event

The fifth annual Osoyoos Oyster Festival takes place April 20 to 24 in Osoyoos.

OSOYOOS - Oyster lovers will want to head to Osoyoos later this month for a five-day oyster extravaganza.

The fifth annual Osoyoos Oyster Festival takes place Wednesday, April 20, through Sunday, April 24.

The event offers creative culinary oyster dishes at several venues and events in Osoyoos.

Notable events include:

International Night features oysters from around the world happens 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. Friday, April 22 at Spirit Ridge at Nk’Mip Resort. Oyster aficionados can enjoy internationally inspired oyster dishes from local restaurants and chefs. 

The Deep Sea Garden Party takes place from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Walnut Beach Resort. This event is held outside with interesting creations from local restaurants and chefs. 

Art of the Oyster Pearl Gala happens 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. Saturday, April 23. at Spirit Ridge at Nk’mip Resort. The signature event of the Osoyoos Oyster Festival, the winners of the Canadian Oyster Wine Competition and the Canadian Oyster Beer Competition will be announced as fresh oysters are shucked to make oyster creations served by chefs from local restaurants.

The Miradoro Long Table Dinner happens Wednesday, April 20, 6:30 p.m., at Miradoro at Tinhorn Creek Winery. This long-table dinner features freshly shucked oysters followed by a three course dinner dedicated to the oyster.

Other events and venues include:

 - Under the Tuscan Sea, 6:30 p.m., April 21, at Terrafina Restaurant at Hester Creek.
 - The 2016 Oyster Open, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Greenside Grill at the Osoyoos Golf Club.
 - Whiskey and Oysters, 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, April 22, at Sol at Holiday Inn.
 - Amateur Shuck ’n Suck Competition, 8 p.m., Saturday, April 23, at The Sage Pub.
 - Under the Sea Brunch, Sunday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to noon, at The Watermark Beach Resort.
