It’s taking a little longer for Penticton’s BC Cannabis store to open than originally hoped.

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch held a job fair in anticipation of the Penticton store’s opening in early July, which saw more than 75 prospective employees put an application in for a position at the store. At the time, the expectation was the store would open in October or November of this year.

Liquor Distribution Branch corporate communications Viviana Zanocco said in an email, Oct. 24, the Liquor Distribution Branch was working with the landlord at the proposed location in the Penticton Power Centre at 2200 Main St. to finalize lease negotiations and determine a hand-over date.

Zanocco could not provide a time frame for the completion of those negotiations.

“This store will be designed to be bright, clean, welcoming and professional while creating a safe and favourable alternative to purchasing non-medical cannabis from the illicit market,” she said.

The liquor branch hopes to have the store open early in the new year.
