When a man entered a stranger's vehicle downtown on Saturday, he didn't expect to confront an off-duty police officer.
The man tried to open the rear passenger door of a vehicle at the intersection of 3 Avenue and Columbia Street, telling the occupant to "give him their stuff," according to an RCMP press release.
"He claimed he had mistaken the vehicle for another one and thought he had been waved over," Kamloops RCMP media relations officer Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.
Kamloops RCMP got the report around 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 20 after the off-duty officer emerged from the vehicle and held the man in custody until the on-duty officers arrived.
"It shows that we live in this city and experience it just like everyone else," Evelyn said.
The man was later released after an investigation. RCMP did not say if charges were considered.
