KELOWNA – The cause of a house fire in Kelowna this afternoon that sent one person to hospital is under investigation.

Firefighters were called to the house fire in the 700 block of Hollydell Road at around 12:27 p.m. today, March 9, to find heavy smoke pouring from the front door and a side entrance.

Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Capt. Tim Light says firefighters tried to enter the home but were pulled out when it became too dangerous.

“The fire was cooled down from the exterior until crews were able to enter and extinguish the fire,” he says in a media release.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but Light says fire department and RCMP investigators will be looking into the blaze when it is safe to do so.

One person was taken to Kelowna General Hospital with unknown injuries.

Five people living in the home are in the care of Emergency Social Services.
