UPDATE: Shuswap wildfires both under control

Original Publication Date April 01, 2019 - 2:01 PM

CHASE - Both wildfires burning near Chase are now under control.

The Kamloops-Shuswap Road and the River Flats wildfires are listed as under control on the B.C. Wildfire Service website.

Crews were still working on the Kamloops-Shuswap Road wildfire today, April 1, fire information officer Jody Lucius said earlier today.

"Crews are making good progress and working on cooling down hot spots on that fire," Lucius said.

The 250-hectare Kamloops-Shuswap Road fire started around the same time as the 100-hectare River Flats fire on Saturday, March 30. The River Flats fire was designated as being "held" earlier today.

No structures are threatened by either of the wildfires, though smoke can be expected in the surrounding area.

Lucius says the fires are suspected to be human caused but no further details are available at this time.

The fires broke out on Neskonlith Indian Band land. Lucius says B.C. Wildfire has been working closely with the band officials.
