One cyclist died and two others were injured in a collision with a vehicle during an Okanagan race involving hundreds of bike riders Sunday.

The incident occurred during the Okanagan Granfondo on White Lake Road near St. Andrews Drive, according to Penticton RCMP.

Police spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation after the July 13 collision.

The two injured cyclists were taken to hospital, according to the police news release.

Okanagan Granfondo event organizers issued a statement to social media to say they are "heartbroken by the incident."

"Our prayers are with all those impacted, and we are especially grateful to the first responders and RCMP for their support," the statement read.

Penticton Indian Band also issued a statement, extending condolences to family and loved ones following the fatality.

"This is a profoundly difficult day for many. Events like the Granfondo are meant to unite us in celebration of community, health and personal challenge. Today's tragedy is deeply felt—not only by those directly involved, but by the entire region," a joint statement by chief and council read.

Police did not release any further information about the investigation.
