Canada's Cochrane bumped from 400 metre final at London Games

LONDON - Canadian swimmer Ryan Cochrane has been bumped out of the men's 400-metre freestyle final at the London Olympics.

Defending champion Park Tae-hwan was reinstated after protesting his disqualification in the heats.

The decision drops Victoria's Cochrane to the ninth spot and out of the final.

A FINA official tells The Associated Press that swimming's governing body made the decision after reviewing video of what had been ruled as a false start.

The official spoke anonymously because the decision had not been announced publicly yet.

While the 1,500 metres is Cochrane's best event, he had been considered an outside contender for a medal in the 400.
