KELOWNA – A linebacker with the Okanagan Sun has died but the team isn’t saying how.
J.T. Fernandez, 21, is being called one of the best linebackers in BCFC team's history according to president Paul Carson.
“This is a tragic day for our organization,” Carson said in a media release. “J.T. was a wonderful person and a standout on the football field. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.”
Carson said details about the Cloverdale man’s death will be released “at the appropriate time.”
Fernandez made 47 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions, blocked two kicks and forced two fumbles in his two years with the Sun.
The players will be wearing a special sticker on their helmets in the memory of J.T. at their game Saturday at the Apple Bowl.
