PENTICTON - The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen is reaching the world with its social media presence.

A report to directors by administrative assistant Nona Lynn states the regional district Facebook page has reached 6,111 people from Canada, 201 from the United States, 117 from the United Kingdom and further in the past 28 days. The regional district launched its Facebook page on Aug. 26, 2015 and has 272 likes to date.

Lynn notes some of the benefits of social media to the regional district include improved customer service, efficient distribution of information, increased customer awareness and low marketing costs.

The regional district’s YouTube page, which launched April 30, 2014, was watched for 13 hours and 51 minutes over the past year.

The regional district sees its social media connection as a way of keeping customers informed in addition to alerting them to problems or events. It also helps the organization build its brand.

Comments have been disabled because there are no dedicated resources to monitor the sites, but Lynn suggests to the board that may be something to consider in the future.
