Fetuses found dead in 2 places in NYC; police investigating

NEW YORK - Police are investigating after fetuses were found dead in a trash can and a sewage treatment plant in upper Manhattan.

Both were found Thursday within a few blocks of each other in the Manhattanville area. Police say there's no sign so far of any connection between the discoveries.

Medical examiners haven't yet determined what caused the fetuses' deaths or whether they were born alive. Their ages and genders are unknown.

Police were called Thursday afternoon to Bellevue Hospital and told that a woman might have disposed of a fetus. Officers later found the fetus in a garbage receptacle on Amsterdam Avenue around 132nd Street.

Police say later Thursday, a worker called them after finding a fetus at the wastewater plant on the Hudson River by West 135th Street.
