CORAL HARBOUR, Nunavut - Police remained on the scene Friday of a multiple stabbing that took the life of a child in a small Nunavut hamlet.
RCMP in Coral Harbour on Southampton Island responded to a complaint shortly after noon Thursday, said Cpl. David Lawson.
"RCMP learned of four occupants — a 28-year-old female and three children — were suffering from stab wounds," he said.
All four were taken to the local health centre and three were airlifted to Winnipeg shortly thereafter.
"Unfortunately, one of the injured children had succumbed to their injuries and died."
RCMP weren't yet releasing names or ages of the victims.
Lawson said no arrests have been made in the community of about 1,000, but added: "I can assure you that the community is not at risk."
RCMP major crimes and forensic identification units from Iqaluit are working on the case, he said.
