The two individuals in a motorhome that caught fire and closed Highway 3 east of Osoyoos yesterday, managed to escape harm, according to the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department.

On May 29 at 12 p.m., the fire department was called to a report of a vehicle fire on Highway 3 by Eagle Point on Anarchist Mountain.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a motorhome, that was towing a car, completely engulfed in flames.

The two occupants of the motorhome had escaped the vehicle prior to the fire spreading with no known injuries, according to the department's Facebook post.

The highway was closed for the afternoon in both directions and firefighters managed to keep the blaze from spreading to the surrounding bush and residential area.

"Several explosions occurred from rupturing tires and at least one on board propane tank," they said in the post.

Firefighters used a direct attack on the fire using compression foam. RCMP was also at the site, along with B.C. Ambulance that provided health checks on the firefighters.

"AMFD wants to remind motorists and bystanders that the extremely toxic nature of the smoke produced by these kinds of fires is very dangerous, as is the risk of explosion and flying objects."
