ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - It looks like Newfoundland and Labrador will be able to hang onto seven-digit dialling, for now.
The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission recently issued a decision recommending that 10-digit dialling be put off indefinitely.
It had planned on introducing a new 879 area code, but decided against it after looking at various factors including population growth and changes in market share.
It announced last May that the new area code would be introduced in November 2018.
But, it says projected needs submitted by communications providers suggests there is "no need to introduce an additional area code in 2018."
The national numbering administrator says it will monitor any forecast changes before releasing a new implementation date.
