We have definitely become a drink culture with so many delicious options available now — with and without alcohol. Virgin bevvies have become better than ever with the arrival of kombucha and chilled coffee products swerving into the super tasty non-alcoholic lane. And now for something totally new – a plant-based, fermented coffee drink.

From winemaker to now innovative drink producer, Danny Hattingh has an exciting new brand launching here in the Okanagan. Danny explains his new Tenebris coffee drink: “Tenebris Black is the love child of coffee and stout. It’s a union between Arabica coffee beans and roasted barley, wedded by sweet oat milk, resulting in a dark creamy beverage that will take you out in the streets for the ride of your life… both alcohol- and cruelty-free. Tenebris Black hits all the beats of an electrifying refresher when you need it the most. Full of character and flavour.”

Plant-based and healthy, Danny has begun by launching the Tenebris Black label.

“Over the past couple of months, I have been developing the brand and getting the first product launched," he says. "This summer, I want to get the product into the hands, mouths and minds of consumers. I wish to learn as much as possible from the target audience and their appetite for "craft coffee" beverages. I call it this because my coffee has a stylistic twist. It is a partially fermented, Nitro Oat-stout coffee. It is a mouthful, I realize.”

Danny’s explains his target fanbase as “craft food consumers, plant-based food consumers and those looking to reduce their alcohol intake by offering a craft-style beverage with undertones of craft beer”.

Starting this week, you can pick up the Draught Coffee at Urban Fare in Kelowna and can check his website or Facebook page for updates on other locations that will be test driving this unique new drink. Danny also plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign later this year if you are interested in being a part of this exciting new project.

The website shares recipes too like this delicious sounding concoction:
