One of the Central Okanagan’s newest brewpubs plans to set up shop in Lake Country, far away from the emerging Brewery District in downtown Kelowna.

Lake Country Brew Pub got the support of Lake Country council this week for its liquor licence application for a new pub in Lake Country Plaza.

It intends to take over the site of the former Routes Grill in the mall, which fronts on Highway 97, with a 97-seat pub, which includes an outdoor patio.

Jayson McCarthy, who filed the application, is asking for permission to be open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If approved, that would give it a later closing time than both Woody’s Pub and Turtle Bay Pub.

Food will be offered from a food truck and patrons will be allowed to bring in their own food or from other restaurants.

The application still needs approval from the B.C. Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch.
