New Asian fusion eatery opens in downtown Vernon
An Asian restaurant located in the heart of Vernon opened this month.
Jade Asian Kitchen specializes in authentic Chinese cuisine, Japanese sushi and Canadian comfort foods.
“We love it here in Vernon and are getting lots of positive feedback and reviews on social media so far,” said owner Evan Young.
It is the second Jade Asian Kitchen Young has started, the first one being in Summerland and he has accumulated a lot of years of experience in the restaurant business.
For his Jade Asian Kitchens, he said the success comes from offering a wide variety of menu options, keeping on top of trends and making food pick-up easy for customers.
“Younger people tend to like Japanese sushi while the older ones tend to like Chinese noodles, so I offer all kinds of Asian dishes for the whole family to order from one place.
“My menu has so much on it sometimes people ask how I’m able to cook all of it, but so many of the ingredients are the same the dishes just need to be cooked differently.”
Young brought in experienced chefs from other provinces who have current ideas of the larger Asian food trends to join the team.

He also offers a few dining options for customers.
“People are welcome to dine in and we also offer online pickup and delivery to make life easier,” he said.
Young said his biggest challenges to opening the new eatery have been finding enough employees and accommodating higher food costs.
“With costs going up you have to raise the prices a little bit to make it work, but if you put the right menu of good food out people will go for it.”
When asked what dishes are the star of the menu, Young said it varies.

Sushi lovers can choose from sashimi, sushi rolls, cones and combos, while Chinese food lovers can dig into traditional shanghai noodles and chow mein.
There are Asian soups and appetizers, and beef, chicken and pork entrees, along with vegetarian options.
Originally from Edmonton, Young’s favourite place is Kelowna where he one day hopes to expand the restaurant to.
Jade Asian Kitchen is located at 3022 30th Avenue and is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
