KAMLOOPS – A SUV’s navigation, safety and communication system alerted emergency crews when the driver of the vehicle crashed near Kamloops last night.

RCMP say they responded to the OnStar alert at about 10:30 p.m., April 1. A GMC Acadian had crashed on Campbell Creek Road south of Barnhartvale.

The driver tried to avoid an animal on the road and hit the ditch, according to a RCMP media release.

The airbags in the SUV deployed sending the OnStar signal.

The driver and passenger, both from Kamloops, were taken to Royal Inland Hospital. Police aren’t saying how badly they were hurt, but they were both wearing seatbelts.
