KAMLOOPS - Some showers and cooler temperatures are in the Kamloops forecast before things clear up and warm up again next week.

Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald says the Kamloops area has experienced a 50 mm precipitation deficit in the last three months, so any rain this month would be welcome.

He says the region can expect five to 10 mm of rain between tomorrow and Saturday before a high pressure system builds over the area, bringing back sunny skies and warm temperatures.

“That’s good news, but it’s a relatively small drop in the bucket right now,” MacDonald says.

The weather models indicate Kamloops could head into a showery pattern around mid-June, but predictions beyond a week can be difficult. The weather office continues to predict a hot, dry summer for southern B.C., so June rains will be important, MacDonald says.

Today, June 6, in Kamloops it should be mainly sunny with west winds at 20 km/h this afternoon and a high of 19 Celsius. Clouds are expected to move in this evening with a 70 per cent chance of showers.

Tomorrow is expected to be showery with west winds at 30 km/h by late morning and a high of 16 C.

Saturday should see a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 19 C. There’s a 30 per cent chance of showers overnight Saturday.

Sunday and Monday should be sunny with a high of 23 C and 26 C respectively.

Normal temperatures this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 24 C and lows of 11 C.
