More rain forecast for Okanagan this week, but sunshine as well

KELOWNA - A steady stream of sunny, hot days continues to elude the Okanagan so far this July as this week’s forecast calls for sun, clouds and rain.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says it looks like July's weather will be all about fluctuations.

"The rain we're getting now is basically two weeks late, as it normally falls in June. It's not that abnormal, it's just shifted," Sekhon says.

He says it looks like the month will see fluctuations in temperatures and precipitation, with a long term outlook seeing below normal temperatures coming in the third week of July. This week's weather will see higher than normal temperatures in most regions tomorrow, followed by some cooler weather for mid-week.

Environment Canada says to expect sunny skies in the Okanagan today, July 8, followed by a mix of sun and cloud and a 40 per cent chance of showers this afternoon in Kelowna and a 30 per cent chance of showers for Penticton. No rain is forecast in the afternoon for Vernon.

There is also a risk of thunderstorms in Kelowna and Penticton, with a high of 27 Celsius expected and a low of 13 overnight.

Winds are expected to become north at 30 km/h in the afternoon for Kelowna, 20 km/h in Vernon and Penticton.

A 40 per cent chance of showers along with the chance of a thunderstorm is expected to continue into the evening under partly cloudy skies, with clearing taking place overnight and a low of 13 C.

Tuesday should be sunny with increasing winds becoming south at 20 km/h late in the afternoon for Kelowna and 30 km/h in Penticton. Highs should reach 29 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 30 C in Penticton.

The clouds should remain overnight with a low of 17 C followed by periods of rain Wednesday with a high of 23 C. There is a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight along with a low of 15 C expected.

Thursday the threat of showers continues with a 60 per cent chance through the day, under cloudy skies and a high of 27 C.

Cloudy periods, a 60 per cent chance of showers and a low of 15 C are expected overnight.

On Friday a mix of sun and cloud is forecast with a high of 29 C.

The weekend is looking like it will be pleasant, with a mix of sun and cloud both Saturday and Sunday and highs of 29 C and 28 C respectively.

Normal temperatures in the Okanagan at this time of year are highs of 26 C and lows of 11 C.
