Mobile drug lab crashes in North Okanagan; police looking for suspects

LUMBY – Turns out a cube van that ended up in the ditch on Highway 6 in Lumby last week was a mobile clandestine drug lab.

RCMP called in a specialized drug lab response team yesterday, March 22, to investigate and dismantle the lab in the back of the van.

It all started on March 17, when RCMP were investigating after a man was bear sprayed and had his pickup stolen when he stopped to check on the van in the ditch in the 4050 block of Highway 6 in Lumby.

That’s when officers discovered the drug lab in the abandoned van, according to an RCMP media release.

Members of the RCMP’s Federal Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team was called out to investigate and dismantle the mobile drug lab.

“The investigation into who is responsible for the robbery and suspected clandestine drug lab is still ongoing,” Const. Kelly Brett says in the release. “No further information is available for release.”

RCMP aren’t saying what kind of drug or drugs the lab was producing. No arrests have been made.

If you have any information regarding this investigation you asked to contact the Lumby RCMP at 250-547-2151. Or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leaving a tip online here.
