Middleton Mountain plagued by thefts from vehicles

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk

VERNON - Police are asking the public to be vigilant following a series of thefts from vehicles in the Middleton Mountain area.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says there have been over 30 reports of damage or thefts to vehicles in that neighbourhood over the last ten days.

“(They) have experienced numerous mischief, and theft from vehicle complaints just about every night,” Molendyk says.

Some thefts have occurred in unlocked cars, while in other cases the culprit, or culprits, broke windows to get what they wanted.

The same night of a suspicious backyard fire on Mt. Bulman Place, an officer was already in the area investigating several thefts from vehicles prior to the report of the fire.

"It's frustrating not only to the people who live there but for our officers," Molendyk says.

Residents are reminded not to leave anything visible in their vehicles that might entice thieves.

Anyone who might have seen something that night or knows anything about any of these thefts is asked to call the Vernon RCMP. Information can be left for Const. Bowhey or emailed to her directly at  stephanie.bowhey@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
